Hi All,

I Have few questions regarding the renewal of my PR card.

My did my landing in April 2012 stayed for about 15 days and then came in 2013 to live permanently. (I have been sponsored by my husband already a Canadian citizen) i have just completed 730 days now in September,2016 but have been back and forth to my home country couple of times during this period. My questions are :

- Is it required that one should have stayed in Canada for 182 days in each year within the first 4 years inorder to meet the RO
- when should i apply for my renewal of PR card
- For how long is the new PR card issued, is it 5 years (I thought i read somewhere that its issued only for the balance days left to apply for citizenship)
- Where has the application to be sent.
- My card expires in June,2017 and i have to travel back home in Sept,2017 hence do now want to face any delay in getting the card renewed.

All suggestions are welcomed.

It is simply required to not have been outside Canada for more than 1094 days since you got PR if that was less than 5 years ago or in the past 5 years if you have been a PR for longer.

There is no stipulation for how much time you should have spent each year for the RO for PR. However, that is for citizenship.

Your PR card is renewed for 5 years at a time. PR card is not tied to citizenship. A PR may not wish to apply for citizenship in all cases, for example if they have citizenship from a country that doesn't allow dual and they want to keep that for some reason, inheritance or other. PR card can be renewed for 5 years at a time an indefinite number of times as long as the PR always meets the RO.

Here is the application and address to send it to: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/prcard.asp

The instructions say: Do not apply for a renewal of your current PR card if it is still valid for more than nine (9) months (270 days), unless it is due to a legal name change. Otherwise, your application will be returned.

Since your PR card is expiring June 2017, you should be able to apply soon but don't apply a few days early or they will return your application.
