Hello,

I became a Canadian PR in April 2016 and my PR card expiry was in June 2021. however I was outside Canada for more than 3 years between April 2016 to June 2021 and I didn't meet my residency obligation during this period. I was allowed to enter Canada few days before my PR card expired in June 2021. I have been employed full time and stayed in Canada ever since and have not left the country and I will meet my residency obligation by May 2, 2022 which means I have stayed in Canada for over 730 days in the last 5 years.

Now, my question is, since I didn't meet the residency obligation before my PR card expiry in June 2021, Can I apply for the PR card renewal just as anyone would normally or do I have to seek help from a legal representative? I was not issued any report by an Immigration officer under subsection 44(1) to the best of my knowledge as it asks in the application form. (there were no questions asked about residency obligation in any of my landings in Canada).

My dependants only landed in Sep 2020 and they would complete 730 days in Canada only by Sep 2022, If I apply for my PR card renewal, will they be affected in any way?

Kindly help me have clarity on this since I need to apply for renewal in few weeks from now.
