Friends, I am in a strange situation where I got my PR 5 years back after which I lived in Canada for 1.5 years. Now I am in US and my card is expiring next year. Just wanted to know if anyone in this group was able to get the card renewed even though they didn't stay in Canada for 2 years?

You can try entering Canada through land and hopefully immigration officer at POE might not notice the issue and you might slip through. After completing the 2 years you can apply for PR card renewal. You might not be able to get health insurance or renew driver's license till you complete the required 2 years.

You need to stay minimum 2 years in Canada to renew your PR card.

Thanks. Does this 2 years needs to be physically in Canada or do they consider the time you are in Canadian payroll also outside Canada?

Typically you need to be physically in Canada.

You may be able to count the time spent outside of Canada if you can prove you were working for a Canadian company outside of Canada. To qualify, you must also demonstrate that you were first hired by the company for a job inside of Canada - and then later transferred to a role outside of Canada. If you were hired for the role outside of Canada directly, you won't be able to count the time.
