After the initial call to IRCC to get the application number, did you have any further calls? If yes, did they say much about the stage of your application? I am on a similar situation just that my card is expiring end of May and I have to travel for work. Summited an Urgent processing request thru webform but looks like it's not yet attached to the file.Hi All - Came home to a surprise in the mail. Sharing my application story below.
Received the new card in the mail today, April 22nd. No updates on the online portal, unable to link via GC Key, or view status on CAS. Called once to obtain the application number but unable to link it or view status using it till date. Happy to answer if there are any questions. Good luck to those who are waiting.
- Application: Submitted a non-urgent application online on February 23rd, current card expiring in Nov 2024.
- Supporting Documents: Provided the last two years' NOAs and submitted bank statements for a randomly selected month from each of the two years, matching the NOAs.
- Background: Had extensive travel during the eligibility period, including multiple day trips to the US. Did not include day trips but disclosed any trips lasting longer than a day.
No. I usually don’t call them more than once. Typically call centre agents can’t do much other than stating the obvious or nudging when processing time has run out. My card was still valid so I wasn’t too much worried. After the initial call to IRCC to get the application number, did you have any further calls? Thank you so much for sharing this informationVery Insightful.
yesDid You Receive your PR?
Even I have submitted my PR renewal last week but no reply , no status changed. and I have the expiry at July2024. only 2 months I have. so more worried..
Why did you ignore the requirement (for ALL applying for a renewed PR Card) to include 2 pieces of `evidence' or residency?Hi All – Received my PR renewal card yesterday. Sharing my application story below:
I did not include any residency obligation documents. This was my first time renewing my PR card and I had travelled twice in the last 5 years for a total of 6 weeks outside Canada. I didn’t think it mattered and wasn’t sure if it was required of me to explicitly prove my residency obligation as I thought that the processing agent had access to ports and authority to retrieve entry/exit dates.
- Application: Submitted online application on the PR portal in December 2023 as non urgent.

At this point I could not link my application to the IRCC portal. Reason being is that all applications start as XR__________________ when submitted.
- Did not receive any acknowledgment of receipt of the application. Status still shows as submitted on the Canadian PR Portal.
- IRCCC Agent – My calls to the IRCC agents were not particularly helpful. The response was that my application is prospective and will be attended. When?, there is no timeline.
Once they are opened, the processing agent will remove X and then only you are able to link your application to the IRCC website.
My repeated calls to the IRCC agents ended up annoying them as I could sense from their tone.
- I submitted few Webforms highlighting the urgency with my travel schedule. No change was noticed to the status of the application then receiving the automated acknowledgment of the Webform.
I sent an email highlighting the timeline with my application, and the delay in processing it or even getting a response.
- Local MP – With 3 months already passed, I reached out to the local MP for help in March 2024. They reverted in a week that my application is prospective. I further asked their assistance to expedite the application however their response was that no member of the parliament has the authority to expedite the application.
- Not knowing what was happening with my application was frustrating.
- Through different forums I came across few email addresses - ircc.clientportalprairies-prairiesclientportail.ircc@cic.gc.ca ( I believe this is specific to Prairies only) and minister@cic.gc.ca

- Within one week of this email, I got a response from minister@cic.gc.ca that my Card was sent to the card production team.
- My card was issued on the same day and sent to me.
- IRCC Linking
- Generally, international passport have place of birth as City, Province/ State. I have been trying with this combination since the time of submitting the application.
- During my call with the IRCC agent after my card was processed, I confirmed how the place of birth was added in their system and he confirmed its “ City (Space) Province/State”)
- With this, I was able to link my application on the IRCC website. Regardless of the card being processed, I think having all applications under the IRCC portal will help in the long run.
What browser are you using? Have you tried with Chrome, Firefox, Edge etc?Did anyone have a problem submitting the online application. I’ve uploaded everything I need to and have done the consent declaration and the submit box is not allowing me to submit. I’ve gone over and tried so many times.
While reading the Appendix A of the Residency Obligation I did not find it mandatory to provide 2 pieces of 'evidence" or at least I did not read it that way.Why did you ignore the requirement (for ALL applying for a renewed PR Card) to include 2 pieces of `evidence' or residency?
Perhaps that contributed to your delay?.
I was only able to link the application after the application was processed. The status now is " We mailed your permanent resident card to you. Your card can take up to six weeks to arrive. "What does your GC key status show now? Did it change from the time you were able to link to now?
The rules changed some time ago requiring all PR's to submit the evidence; even those that never left Canada at all. While reading the Appendix A of the Residency Obligation I did not find it mandatory to provide 2 pieces of 'evidence" or at least I did not read it that way.
If you have been a permanent resident for five (5) years or more
But, going through this forum I realize that I should have done so.
- you must have been physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days within the past five (5) years.
Same I applied on 13th Feb, no updates I even had a planned vacation and waited till last minute and canceled ticket..I applied my husband's PR card renewal application online on Feb. 13, 2024 and on February 21, 2024 I received an email from IRCC that his Driver's License is not updated one (We attached the old mistakenly). Then we uploaded the New/Current Driver's License with the application on same day (February 21, 2024). His application status is showing submitted. Today is April 18, 2024 but we didn't receive any update yet.
IRCC website PR card renewal processing time is showing 57 Days.
Is there anyone who applied for the PR card renewal online and took this much time? Please reply if anyone knows anything.
