PR Card Renewal - Application Withdrawl

Hi there,

I need some clarification regarding my PR Card Renewal Aplication. I have applied for PR renewal 5 months back and my application has been transferred to the local CIC office as I was around 170 days shy of the 730 day period. Now I came to know that it would be take around 3-6 month more to get an interview. Now my residency obligation would be fulfilled in a months time. I want to withdraw my existing application and start afresh another new application in the "urgent" category. Is there any way I can withdraw my existing application?

If anyone is kind enough to respond to my query, i would really be grateful.

Of course you can withdraw it. Fax or mail them a signed letter with your name, birthdate and file number, stating that you want to withdraw your application.

Except the CIC already knows from his application that he was not in compliance.

And it seems like people get away with that all the time. There was even someone who posted on this forum who was called in for an interview and offered to withdraw his application then and there because he did not meet the residency requirements. The rules seem to be a lot stricter than the reality.

How can I withdraw the application and what Is the fax number and download form location.

There is no form to withdraw it. Write a letter stating that your name is so and so and your birthdate so and so and your PR card number is xxxxxx and because of personal reasons, you want to withdraw your PR renewal application. Sign it and send it to the same address you sent your PR renewal application to.

In this application, I counted forward from the day I first landed in Canada (May 23rd, 2006) up until the date of application (August 16th, 2011).

I did not realize that I should count back 5 years from the date of application, until I received a letter from CIC.

Just write:

For personal reasons, I would like to withdraw my current application for the renewal of my PR card.

I apologize for any inconvenience.

You don't want to draw it to their attention that you do not meet the residency requirements if they haven't figured it out already.

I have just one more question, my PR card is already expired recently.
I have already met my residency requirements ( I have more than 800 days of physical stay in Canada and now presently I am living in Canada) will this be an issue while I fax a letter to CIC for withdrawal of PR card renewal application.

I don't understand the question. What will be an issue? Immigration has the right to judge you on the residency requirements on your application date for your PR card. If you did not meet them on this date, they can revoke your PR. At the very least, there will be an interview. If you want to avoid this hassle, you can try withdrawing your application and applying again later. I can not tell you if they will accept your withdrawal or not.

Thanks so much for you help Mr. Leon ..they have accepted withdraw fax and refunded us $50.

Now my son already have stayed in Canada more than 800 days. Shall I apply for renewal of his PR now?

They will only look at the previous 5 years so from March 28th 2007 until March 28th today, he has more than 730 days? If yes, then you can apply for him. If no, continue to wait until you can look back at the previous 5 years and say yes.
