If it's a simple lost card, I think it's a direct replacement. You can't use this method to get round the residency obligation requirements.SMA.DE said:Is the expiry date for the new card another 5 years or the same as my old pr card?

You're absolutely correct. There is a solemn declaration that you are supposed to complete too, as part of the application. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=047&t=10Nasimj said:Hi there,
When you lose your card, you need to re-apply for a PR card just like you did the first time when you applied for your initial card. If your residency obligation is not under question, the card is going to be valid for 5 years from the date it's issued.
Yes, I talk from experience!SMA.DE said:My card will expire Dec 2017, and I meet the residency requirements. I read from the web, some says people who lost PR card will get 5 years, some says people will get the same date as the old card, and some says if your card is to be expired in a long time, you will not get a new 5 year.
Is there anyone who actually got a new card can clarify?
Thanks Nasimj, when did you apply for your new one? and at the time of applying, for how long will your old card expire?Nasimj said:Yes, I talk from experience!
I lost my first card within the first year while I was abroad. Got a travel document, came back, did the whole nine yard and got a new card valid for 5 years from the new issue date!
My initial card was dated 2009-2104, lost it in early 2010. The new card was issued within 2 weeks and valid from 2010-2015.SMA.DE said:Thanks Nasimj, when did you apply for your new one? and at the time of applying, for how long will your old card expire?

We requested for urgent processing as we had to leave and it was granted.
Is it possible that you may have seen a similar reference to SIN cards, which definitely are not now being issued/replaced?SMA.DE said:Thanks a lot.
Do you know anyone who re-apply recently? I think I saw somewhere on the web that CIC is no longer doing this in recent years, especially after 2012.
sorry, no information about SIN cardzardoz said:Is it possible that you may have seen a similar reference to SIN cards, which definitely are not now being issued/replaced?
Don't think, show us the source. PR cards, if granted, are issued for 1 or 5 years. No exceptions to lost or replaced cards. Don't make up operational procedures.SMA.DE said:Thanks a lot.

No official source from CIC, but I did see one person saying her new card is having the same expire date as the old one (but I am not sure maybe there are some reason CIC is doing this exception to her). Also saw immigration consultants say if the old card is still having a long expire date, then CIC won't issue a new 5 year card, and especially after 2012. So I am looking for someone has recent card replacement experience who can give me some idea.CanV said:Don't think, show us the source. PR cards, if granted, are issued for 1 or 5 years. Both the person and the consultant are wrong.SMA.DE said:No official source from CIC, but I did see one person saying her new card is having the same expire date as the old one (but I am not sure maybe there are some reason CIC is doing this exception to her).
