Hello,

I have been in Canada since June 2007 and never visited any country since then (Living in Canada for whole 6+ years). My PR card has been expired on June 2012 and I have not applied for renewal yet and planning to do now. the main reason why I did not renew my PR card is, I thought I can apply for citizenship. However, now I have to sit for the English exam (CELPIP). In order to sit for the CELPIP, I have to show non expired PR card.

I am from Sri Lanka and my passport also has been expired now. In order to renew my PR, I believe that I have to have non-expired passport. At the same time, In order to renew my Sri lankan passport, SL consulate is asking non-expired PR card.

I am an IT professional and I have been working for Canadian companies only. I have my all 5 years of Income tax proves as well.

1. Am I able to renew my PR card using any other option?
2. Is there any chances that my PR status get rejected due to this situation?
3. Am I need a lawyer?

Please let me know. I am really in trouble due to my laziness. I learned a good lesson for not doing things at correct time.

Please help.

Thanks

REQUIREMENTS

(i) Duly completed form "O" (IM 37)

(ii) Your current passport

(iii) Applicant’s status in Canada (Copy of PR Card / Work Permit / Dual Citizenship Certificate / Study Permit / Letter from Canadian Immigration which indicates applicant’s present status in Canada)
Is this possible? You could apply for a "Verification of Status" from http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certcopy.asp

Thanks Zardoz for the links.

Based on your reply, my understanding is that I should apply for the Sri Lankan passport first and then I should apply for PR card renewal? Is that correct?

Is there any other option to get the PR renewal other than applying to SL passport first? Also, due to delay in the PR card renewal and expired passport, Is there any chances that my PR status get rejected due to this situation? Please let me know.

It's the only way that I can think of to break the deadlock. Passport first, then PR card (if you still need it).
I see no reason for any problems with your status as a Permanent Resident. It's probably a good idea to have a valid PR card however, as a number of organisations seem to rely on it, even though they shouldn't.
