Hi
My wife has PR card expiring in few months, We applied for renew back in Nov, but didn't realized till now, it take 180 days.
It's most likely her PR card will expire before she gets new one.
Will she have any problem with her current employment if PR card is expired?
We dont have any plans for travel yet.

Thanks

The only time it will matter is if you intend to travel.
Her employer should not care if PR card has expired, all they should care about is the valid SIN.

Hi there,

It is a common misunderstanding. The PR card is like an ID card and ID cards go expire all the time. On the other hand, the Permanent Residency Status will never expire. The only circumstance that a PR card can be used under is when you come into Canada from another country. My uncle immigrated to Toronto 15 years ago and has never renewed his PR card (it has expired for 10 years..) because he simply doesn't leave the country at all. As a matter of fact, even though you want to leave the card while you are waiting for your new PR card, you can still do so. It's just when you come back, you should fly to Seattle (instead of flying to Canada directly) then ask your freind or family do you a favor by picking you up from Seattle airport then come into Canada via land. This is a 100% valid way to come back to Canada as suggested by CIC.
