Got my PR in 2006
Landed. Applied for the PR Card.
Returned to the USA after 3 days.
I never went to Canada afterwards. Friend of mine FedExed my PR card and SIN.

Now (Oct 12 2011) my PR is expiring in 7 days. I am very close to getting my Green card in the USA. At the same time, I do not want to lose the Canadian PR too. As per the PR obligations even if I apply for my renewal, they can easy deny my renewal. Unless I cook up my application.

Let it expire and re-apply? Call my local Canadian consulate? Go to Canada tomorrow and do not leave Canada for next 730 days. I can't do that. I have nothing to do in Canada. What should I do now? Just give up? :(

Your only legal option are:

Try to return to Canada before the card expires, hope you're not reported by immigration for failing to meet your residency obligation, live in Canada for 730 days without leaving and then submit an application to renew your status.

Re-apply at a later date.

Since you don't want to live in Canada for 730 days then pretty much you've answered your own question. The likely hood of them reporting you is very slim, so even if you enter they'll tell you to make sure you stay for 730 days which you dont want to either ways. Stay in US, get your green card and your passport that's the only option you have and the best one you've got

You can work in Mcdonalds or Tim Horton for 730 days... its bloody difficult to find a professional job in Canada if you have overseas qualifications and skills...

Why do you want to keep the PR? You haven't needed it for the past 5 years so why would you need it in the future? You should just let your PR card expire and if you want to apply again later, you can apply again.

Thank you all for your prompt responses. Yeah.. I am happy as where I am. Why would I seek for alternative. I would let my PR go. Wait for GC. If that doesn't work, hire an attorney for PR re-validation.

Thanks again.
