Hello,

I am immigrating to St. John's, Newfoundland next week, but I would like to know how long it takes to receive PR card.

In case if I have to leave Canada for visiting my husband/travelling with him before receiving PR card, do you think that passport and a copy of COPR are enough to prove my second entry? If not, please advise if there are any other ways to help me get in with those 2 documents.

To maintain PR status, it is 2 out of 5 years but to apply for citizenship later is supposed to be 3 out of 4 years. In the case of my temporary leaving to USA or travelling with my husband outside Canada, do I have to mention/declare my leaving any period of times when it's time of citizenship application? If crossing USA border and leave for few days, do I have to inform that as well?

We will settle down in St. John's due to my husband's job, but we will firstly land in Toronto for his parent's visit and then we will fly to St.John's. Does it mean I have to do the first landing in Toronto? If yes, I will have to give my husband's company address in St. John's, which is different from PR application where was given his parents's address to the IO when asked for PR delivery. Do you think it is alright if we give St.John's address to the IO instead of his parents's address?

Thank you for your help

New PR cards are currently delievered in about 30 business days, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

Your passport and copy of COPR should be fine to get in until you get your PR card if you are driving or are visa exempt to Canada. If you are not visa exempt and are flying, you may need a travel document to prove to the airline that you have the right to enter Canada. You can get a travel document at a Canadian embassy in the US.

You will have to give your full travel history when you apply to renew your PR card and when you apply for citizenship. Make sure you keep notes of your dates of travel so you can list them later as well as calculate your days spent outside Canada. The US is also outside Canada :)

The address should be fine.

Thank you so much, Leon :)

If you husband is a citizen of Canada then make note the trips you take together. Days out of Canada with your citizen spouse will count towards your PR obligation, but unfortunately they don't count towards your citizenship days.

Also, as Leon mentioned, the change of delivery address for your PR card is no problem. Changing your location for landing is not an issue either (unless you're dealing with Quebec).

Happy landing annieann.
