Can anyone confirm if I can use PR Card with my expired passport number to travel outside Canada?
the card will expire 2027 but the Passport number added in there expires this year. I sent an amendment but they still printed it using the old passport number :\

What? Your PR card does not have a passport number attached to it. What do you mean use your expired passport?

Do you have a currently valid passport? You'll need that to board a plane.

If so, you use your current passport and PR card - like anyone else.

I just received an update via GC portal that the card will be mailed. but the passport number attached to it is the expiring one. Can I still travel overseas and just bring my expired and valid passport with the PR card to return in Canada?

There is no passport number on the PR card at all. There's no issue with the old passport number being 'attached' to it.

There likely will be a database entry held by CBSA/IRCC about your old passport number but that doesn't stop you from using your new passport with the card, or indeed some other passport (if you happened to have one).

Any 'link' is only used to help identify you, and is not a requirement.

perfect! I just want to make sure. Damn i should've not sent an amendment document if that was the case then. I guess whenever returning to Canadian border i'll just have to bring both expired and valid passport?

Thank you so much!!

Amend what? I still don't entirely understand what you're talking about. PR card does not have your passport details on it.

As for bringing both: not necessary. There's a SMALL chance it might speed things up the first time you come back (and photocopy of the expired would be enough for that) - and probably only make a difference if there's some reason it would be hard to identify you, like exceedingly common name or your physical appearance has changed a lot from the PR card photo. But really this is only going to be if there's some doubt that 'you are you', if you've got the normal amount of other ID and have travelled a few times in last years, not likely to be an issue.

Repeat after me: current passport + PR card.

I submitted and amendment for passport number from the eCOPR as I didnt know that the passport number is irrelevant :(

Shoulder asked the forum before doing something unnecessary hahaha! Thanks so much for the info!!!!! They mailed it today so hopefully I receive it by end of the week.
