I was wondering (and looking into the future):
1. what documents are required to renew a PR card? Just curious if I have to already start collecting some receipts etc? Or is a lease agreement enough to prove I lived in Canada for the required time? I'm definitely going to, not planning to move anywhere, but just curious how it's best to prove that when applying for a renewal?
2. I assume that it's best to apply around a year before the card expires, right? Because it takes a few months for them to process the application?
3. Also, for a future citizenship application, what is required to have submitted with it? I mean, again - do I need to provide evidence for living in Canada for the required 6 years? Any other things that will be needed that it's best I start taking care of now?
4. I am going to be staying home with out kids for a while as a stay at home mum, and so I wonder if, given that according to the IRCC website they require also tax returns for 4 years before applying, does that mean that money earned throughout the time in Canada also counts towards citizenship? Or is this simply to prove residency and taxes paid, even when unemployed?
5. Also, what information from my landing and PR card is going to be relevant to citizenship? The COPR had last/first entry dates to Canada wrong but the officer at the border said this is of no relevance and I am now wondering whether it's worth it to have the landing record amended, or is that indeed irrelevant and so there's no need to bother?
6. what happens if I change my surname? My common law hubby and I are thinking of getting married and I will want to change my name - does that mean I will need to apply for a new PR card?
I won't be able to prove 2.5-5 years of living in Canada as a permanent resident them, because we are planning to get married next year, after our baby is born, so it won't be more than a year after I became a PR... Can I apply for a new PR card just because I changed my name? and, I assume that the PR card is tied to the passport, right? So if I get married here, then I will have to get my marriage here recognized in Poland (where I'm from), then get a new Polish passport in the changed name first, and then apply for a new PR card, right?
7. Is it possible to travel in the meantime with my old PR card (I'm assuming it takes a few months to get the new one?) in my old name but with both my old and new passports? I do that when I travel to the US (my visa is in an old name I used to have and in my old passport, which was annulled when I changed my name and got a new passport). Just curious what the procedures are.
