PR as a refugee

Hello,
I got my permanent residency in 2013 as a conventional refugee. When an immigration officer was giving me the Confirmation of Permanent Residence document, he told me that it's for the rest of my life. My questions are:
1. Am I a subject of a 2-year staying in Canada requirement? As I understand, PR holders have to live in Canada for at least 2 years within 5-year period, otherwise they might lose the status. Is it the same in my case?
2. Will I be able to renew my PR card and a Refugee Travel Document while staying abroad? How long does it usually take?

Thank you,
Marat

1. The residency requirement is the same for everyone. Yes - you have to live in Canada for 2 out of every 5 years to keep your PR status.
2. No - you cannot renew your PR card from outside of Canada. You must be physically in Canada.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that I am a stateless person. So can I still lose my status if I don't have other passports besides a Canadian Travel Document

Sure - you can certainly still lose your status. You could find yourself outside of Canada with a refused PRTD and end up stateless in whatever country you're visiting temporarily now - unable to return to Canada. Make sure you meet the residency obligation if you value your status in Canada.

Thank you very much!

One more question. Can I return to Canada on a valid Refugee Travel Document and the Confirmation of Permanent Residence document (the original) and an expired PR card. Thank you!

No - I don't believe you can because the refugee travel document is the equivalent of a passport for you. I believe you need either a valid PR card or a PR Travel Document (different than a refugee travel document). Hopefully someone else can verify.

Thank you! Right now my PR card is fine, but it will expire by next May while I will be overseas teaching. Can an immigration lawyer (as a representative) renew a PR card on my behalf while I am abroad, provided that I will sign the application before I fly over there in two months. Then. he would send it to me by FEDEX? Is it possible? Thank you!

Technically no, you need to be physically in Canada. Also note that they don't always mail the PR card. Sometimes they require you to appear in person to pick it up.

Do you meet the residency requirement at this time? Have you lived in Canada for at least 2 out of the last 5 years?

Yes, I do. I was out of country for about 6 months for last 5 years.

Please stop replying to all these very old posts. It will not give you accurate information because processing times may have been very diffierent at that time. Also you are unlikely to get a reply.
