PR approval received but passport expired?

Just wondering if anyone has been in a situation where they received confirmation of PR but could not submit their passport to IRCC within the stipulated time because it had expired and was at the Embassy for renewal?

Our PR is due anytime but our son's passport is at the Indian Embassy and they are asking for 8 weeks to renew.

If you are inland, you are directly issued a COPR now and do not need to submit passports.

I am inland applicant and my dependent passport expired and VO is asking us valid passport of my dependent. Seems without valid passport of dependent, they won't issue COPR.
