Hi,

My husband and I are immigrating under the Quebec Skilled Worker stream (he sponsored me). I have a CSQ. While our application was processing, my work permit is now expiring in 60 days. I applied for a bridge work permit in March, but the processing time is about 120 days. Do I have implied status after 60 days? Can I continue working while it is being processed or do I need to stop working? Thanks

Hi Wantigz,

When you apply to extend your work permit before it expires, and you remain in Canada while waiting for a decision, you are considered to have implied status. This means that you can continue to work under the same conditions as your previous work permit until a decision is made on your extension application.

In your case, since you've applied for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) before your current work permit expires, you should have implied status and can continue working while your application is being processed. However, you must continue to meet the conditions of your current work permit during this period.

Please note that implied status remains valid only if you stay in Canada while waiting for a decision. If you leave the country during this time, you may not be allowed to work upon your return until your new work permit has been approved.
