A person is not required to have a year of valid status left. They are only required to have been initially lawfully admitted to the country of residence for a year.Sheps said:I think it has more to do with the fact that her status is expiring in September. My wife received Ottawa instead of Manila because she is a resident of Canada currently, but her status is valid for 1 year (from March), which is why they chose Canada. I am sure if her status expired in the summer they probably would have sent it to Manila.
Many apps, especially straightforward ones, from different VOs are right now being either completely processed in Mississauga or sent to Ottawa. CIC seems to be trying to relieve the outland VOs that are experiencing high app volume and longer processing times. This is more likely the reason her app is being processed in Ottawa and not Manila. Very few outland applicants that submit their app from Canada actually have their app processed here, even those who have been here for years and still have valid status left for years.
