Hello everyone,

I'm in a bit of a dilemma on whether I should report my short stint in the military in my Schedule A, Box 8 (Personal history). Basically, I served 25 days in Artesh before I got my military exemption for my studies in the US. So, a few questions...

1. Should I mention the 25 days as a part of my personal history? Given that non of my military duty/exemption documents mention the 25 days, at all!!

2. I think my exemption is valid only until the end of my first master's which I finished couple of years ago...now I'm doing my MBA (all in the US). Am I wrong in applying for PR with this description??

I would really appreciate y'all's input! Thank you!

Hello Ali,
As military services is mandatory for all males in Iran there is no problem with this issue from CIC's point of view. This means that being honest is the best thing to do with your application. Also if I understood your second question correctly as comparison between US & Canada, it would depends on many items such as whether or not you have relatives there, having a good job, earning money easily and etc. Although both have American life styles but I personally prefer Canada for having free health insurance and multicultural environment(No racism).
Good luck with your final decision,

Hello Amir and welcome aboard.
Yeah, it is very common to receive CV request. Almost 95% of people on this forum received it. It is for the purpose of security. Most probably, you are going to see a ghost update in a couple of days and your file will be sent to enhanced SS.
Hi there,
I have uploaded my CV since eight days ago but the statement next to "Additional Documents" field in my GCKey account is still constant and never changed. Indeed, it is written as follows: "We are reviewing your uploaded documents". But I read from your previous posts that it should be changed to N/A, right?
Apart from that, unfortunately I have not received any ghost update yet.

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding proof of military service for my father. He has never done the service and he is around 60 years old. How can I prove to IRCC that men above 50 years old are automatically exempt from doing the military service in Iran, and that no card is issued for this type of exemption? They have asked for a "proof" two times already :|

Thanks!

Thanks for your input Amir1523! As for my second question...my bad, I should've been more clear. Let me try to explain it better:

Basically, I received my exemption for my first master's which I completed two year ago in the US. After that, I started my MBA (second master's also in the US) but I didn't report this to the military service authorities back home. Now, I do believe that my exemption is valid only until the end of my first master's (the document states that). SO, am I going to face any issues when/if I'm asked for proof of military service exemption/completion for my PR application?

I appreciate any insights! Thank you!

Hi Ali and welcome aboard.
I agree with @Amir1523. It is better to be honest. Since the majority of the men in Iran have to do mandatory military service, CIC already knows. But, there is more chance they are going to send your case for security screening (which they do for majority of the Persians regardless of participating in military or not). security screening is not the end of the world. It just takes more time (3-4 months more). You also want to be consistent with the information that you provided to the US and to Canada. As part of your application, you agree to allow them share your information wich each other. So, if you already reported that for your US visa, you should report it for your Canadian PR as well. After all, it is all your choice.

2- Sorry I don't understand your question. If you are asking for living in Canada, I think that is a personal question. Canada is very cold and could be boring. There are less opurtunities in Canada, and things are slower. On the other hand, Canada has free medical health care (hard to get them to do anything, but if you succeed, you don't have to worry about the costs). It is easier to immigrate to Canda and get citizenship. Job market is less competettive and easier to get.
If you are asking about the requirement, there is absoultely nothing wrong with applying for PR. If you have the requirements, you can apply and have Canadian PR. In case you changed your mind, you can withdraw your application

For some people it chances to NA, but for others it changs to "We are....". For your case, I think you still have time. you have to wait for the officer to get your additional document and decide based on them. Theonly thing that I can recommend you to do is to order notes and make sure your eligibility is passed.

Hello and welcome aboead.

1- Can I ask which stream are you applying? Sponsoring your father?

2- How much time do you have to submit this document?

3- Is there anyway that your father can get any document from Iran (like the card or something) that can prove he does not need to go to military? Anything tha tyou can translate and include. Search Vezarate ommore Khareje and places like daftar.org. Or even nezam vazifeye markazi in your city or Tehran. They may give you a document that you can translate. I am sure he can get a letter or something.

4- Since you said they asked for proof two times. Have you tried to include a cover letter eplaining the situation? What else did you include the first time they asked? Do you know what was the officer's comment?

Have they take the money that you put to be able to travel abroad? If not, it means that the case is still open in Iran, you may be able to submit new documents and get a new exemption letter.

If not, and if they asked you about it, you can include a cover letter explaining it. Specially since you didn't go back and you started your second masters, you should be fine.

Thank you for your reply and recommendation. I received Pre-arrival letter on December 2019 and due to my research that letter confirms that my eligibility is passed. Additionally, I passed my medical exam and did the biometric test. So, I was hoping for my PPR in a few weeks but I got CV request instead. :(

Dear friends,

I have a quick question and I apologize in advance if it is not quite relevant to the topic of this forum. My friend wants to apply for the express entry while also applying for post-doc positions in Canada. My first question is whether a post-doc position will count as a job offer to be used in the PR application? My other question is that in case they get a post-doc position and want to apply to for a visa to enter Canada (I am not sure which type of visa/work permit they must apply for a post-doc), will the express entry application affect their post-doc visa application negatively? I am just asking this because for approving any type of US non-immigrant visas, if the officer finds out about any US immigration-based applications, they will refuse the visa with a high chance.

Thanks a lot!

Hello,
There are some points that can I think of:
1- Actually, Canada still does not know how it wants to treat post-doc! So, what I mean is that some positions are considered the same as other students (PhD, masters, etc.) and some positions are considered as job (like research assistant, etc.). So, if your friend applies for work permit and get a post-doc, the work can be used for Express Entry. But, if your friend does it on a study permit, then no it won't be considered as a job experience for PR.
2- in Canada, permit is for staying and living in Canada and visa is for entering the country. With study or work permit you can study or live in Canada, but you can't enter the county. So, your friend has to apply for a TRV (temporary resident visa) as well to be able to enter Canada.
3- Lastly, the application of PR does not interfere other applications, as PR processing time could be long. For instance in Canada, there is a type of work permit called BOWP, which is specifically designed for people who applied for PR, but have to wait due to processing time.

I'll have to find out whether they've taken the money or not, I guess. But might just go with the cover letter option. @Mr_nobody Thank you!

Hello guys,

I finally received my COPR :).

Regarding the documents required for landing, in what form I should provide my proof of fund to the immigration officer? Cash or a letter from my bank in my current country of residence? Thanks.

Hi, First of all, congratulations for receiving your COPR.
Secondly, please keep in mind that if you carry more than ten thousand Canadian dollars or an equivalent amount in other currencies then it is your responsibility to mention it in your declaration form which will be distributed among the passengers in your flight to Canada. Please be honest while filling out this form and consider it as a serious obligation.
As you previously mentioned in your signature, you are a resident in one of the European countries and this can make it unnecessary to carry cash to Canada. You can simply confirm this by your bank advisor in Europe as they can give you the possibility to use your ATM card directly in Canada since your local bank would automatically changes Euro to CAD. However, in this scenario some exchange fees would be inevitable to be reduced from your account along with some additional hidden fees. Indeed, these reduction formulas highly depends on your local bank's policy and can be explained to you during a personal meeting with you bank advisor.
By the way, what is your country of residency?
