PPR! My case details: Pilot License Holder + Freelancer

Number of applicants: 2


FSW - O (India)


As I am the dependent, points for my work experience were not claimed owing to it being outside Canada. PA’s mode of work: Freelance/Self-Employed.


Number of PCCs: 2 each (India and USA), PA has also spent 1 year in Canada as a student so his RCMP check must have happened internally.


Education: PA’s 1 year Canadian diploma provided + 12th (secondary) standard credential assessment by WES provided owing to diploma being a non-university degree. Please note this is essential as CIC needs to know that your diploma is a post secondary qualification for which points are awarded.

For my educational points, I am a Commercial Pilot License holder hence I submitted scans of my American and Canadian pilot licenses + my 12th standard (secondary) credential evaluated by WES. I realised previously when pilot license holders have applied to CIC they did not submit the Secondary qualification. Pilot Licenses are non-academic qualifications hence WES does not evaluate them. Therefore to show that it’s a post secondary cred it’s essential to get your higher secondary/high school cred evaluated by Wes.


Proof of Marriage: As we are a same sex couple from India where LGBT rights are not existent, our marriage certificate issued in NYC was provided along with an explanation in LOE about the same. (I also elaborated on all other areas of the application in the LOE)


Work ex: 9 reference letters from select significant clients, invoices spanning the number of years since start of occupation, pertaining to the clients who wrote those reference letters to show CIC that work has been ongoing. Also provided PA’s respective professional website details etc.


Proof of Relationship to Canadian Relative (PA’s maternal uncle in our case): Provided Canadian relative’s recent utility bill + provided canadian relative’s citizenship certificate as well as birth certificate. Also provided PA’s mother’s birth certificate and passport with bio information.


ITA: 18 April

Lowest cut off: 413, our score: 413


AOR: June 01


Medical Passed: 07 July


CSE: sent on 09 July regarding a correction to be made in the statutory questions section.


Doc status updated as “The additional documents you have sent have been uploaded” on 28 July.


Doc status updated as “The additional documents you provided are being reviewed” around 31 July.


BG: Never saw BG changing to IP1. As per me it always stayed on NA since AOR.


Doc status changes to “No documents required”: August 18


A call to CIC on September 13 confirms my file transferred to New Delhi Visa Office the previous month (around August 17), my checks were ongoing at the time as per the agent.


IP2: November 06


No Documents Required changes to Documents being reviewed: November 14


RPRF: November 16


PPR: November 16

Hello, Thank you so much for giving a detailed description of the process, I just noticed that you have Photographer as your profession, were you/your husband a freelance photographer? If yes what documents were required for proving freelance experience?
Actually i'm a freelance photographer and intend to apply for Canadian immigration but all my transactions were in cash. I can provide letter of recommendation but how many do I require?
I would highly appreciate if you could help me in this regard.

I spoke at David Cohen's office and they say its very difficult to prove my freelance work. They say I might need 30-32 reference letters from clients to prove that i worked full time. How did you prove your working hours?
