PPR Berlin how to mail?

We've just received the PPR for my boyfriend - yay! very quick in our opinion. However, on the letter from Berlin, it does not specify how to send or receive back the passport. I know there are a lot of threads about this topic but we were wondering if anyone has had specific experience with mailing to and from the Berlin office. We would be sending the passport from the Netherlands to Berlin. Is courier the best option (and then include a prepaid courier envelope for the return?) Fedex?? Any advice would be appreciated...

we used commercial carrier UPS and included a prepaid return envelope back.
