Hello,

I've been in Canada for a couple of years and was just recently diagnosed with a rotator cuff tear that needs surgery. I live by myself without any family in town.
I know I will need help after surgery for a few weeks. Back in Austria we had a sort of a temporary nursing service that would stop by and help you get dressed or bathe and even do some light housecleaning and it was also covered under the health care plan. Does something like this exist here?
I know there's Meals On Wheels, but it would be great if there was a service for someone to stop by morning and evening or something like that.
My insurance is going to cover the procedure privately as there is something like a two year wait, but I have no idea where to even look for post operative help.

Does your doctor think you will be unable to dress or bathe after your surgery? If yes, you should ask him where you can hire a temp nurse. If no, then you wont need to. It is amazing what you can do with one arm when you put your mind to it. Just make sure you clean your apartment, do all your laundry etc. before you go for surgery. Also stock up on food and think of moving things from upper cabinets if you think they will be hard for you to reach and think that you will need them.

Yeah, apparently my arm will be fixed at a 90 degree angle for a full 6 weeks and the pain is nothing to sneeze at. He said I will definitely need help. I was hoping that family could visit, but it's not going to happen, so I'm looking for alternatives.
