Hi, my wife recently graduated from a public college here in Canada in a 2 year course and received her PGWP. However, because of her passport expiring in late 2018, her WP was granted for a shorter period compared to other people (others had 3 year period approved).

I would like to know if it's possible to reapply for an extension of it, once we renew her passport.

PGWP is not issued based on Passport expiry. Probably she got less time due to her course structure or lot of other things.
PGWP application says you might get max 3 years after 2 years of course.
I have seen friends whose passports were valid for next 5-7 years but still got 1.5 yrs PGWP after 2 years program.

PGWPs are issued like many temporary work permits to the validity of the applicants passport.

Then if the applicant applies for a new passport and for example should have got a longer term PGWP they would apply to extend work permit with an explanation letter and details of the initial PGWP. This is the only time a PGWP can be extended assuming the applicant qualified for the longer term in the first place.

Plenty of cases on the forum of similar scenarios.
