Post-Graduation Work Permit

I am looking for some MBA programs at Canadian universities. I have a question regarding Post-Graduation Work Permit. Most of the courses which I am applying to are 16 months to 20 months long. So in such a case for how long will I get Post-Graduation Work Permit? Is this permit granted only after graduation or will I receive Post-Graduation Work Permit during my study visa stamping?

Actually I also had the same understanding until I read somewhere that Post-Graduation Work Permit is granted equivalent to the duration of course or for maximum of 3 years (if course duration is for more than 3 years). Could you please confirm or post some link where this information can be authenticated.

" A work permit under the PGWPP may be issued for the length of the study program, up to a maximum of three years. A post-graduation work permit cannot be valid for longer than the student's study program, and the study program must be a minimum of eight months in length. For example, if you graduate from a four-year degree program, you could be eligible for a three-year work permit if you meet the criteria. If you graduate from an eight-month certificate program, you would be eligible for a work permit that is valid for no more than eight months. "

I think you will be granted a 2 yr permit in my opinion since the max ur program runs is just under 2yrs or 20 months as you stated.

Thanks a lot!! It really helped. I got the official link. After going through cic website another question popped up in my mind. Could you please help with this as well. One of the requirement of Post-Graduation Work Permit states

"You must have studied full time in Canada and you must have completed a program of study that lasted at least eight months."

What does full time refer to here? Does that mean that if I go for a course which has classes over weekends then I will not be eligible for Post-Graduation Work Permit? Or does it mean that I have to study for two years in Canada and it does not matter if I go for a course which has classes over weekends?

Different schools might interpret full time differently.Full time during time at the University of Manitoba was regarded as 9 credit hours of courses and above. Any thing below 9 credit hours was considered part time.
1 course = 3 credit hours so if a student takes 3 courses or more it is considered full time.

So it really has nothing to do with the lecture time slot i.e whether once a week or on weekends. Just check your credit hours and make sure it is in line with what your school of choice considers full time.

be careful if the classes r only on weekends it may be a part time program designed for working professionals so best is to contact ur college/university and ask them is it is a part time program.

You get it after you complete your course. And, its once in a lifetime.
