Hi All,

I was surfing the Post Graduation Work Permit Program pages on CIC. The pages indicate that a student, having successfully completed his/her program of study, has 90 days to apply for a post graduation work permit which requires no job offer.

Please consider this scenario:

A student has completed a 2-year-long Master's program and, within 90 days of completing his/her degree, has obtained a post graduation work permit with a validity of 2 years. He/she has been looking for a job and in the mean-time 7 months have elapsed. So the remaining validity of his/her work permit is "2 years minus 7 months = 17 months". His/Her hunt for a job continues on.......

Is the above scenario realistic? I mean, can he/she continue looking for a job for as long as the work permit remains valid?

I was searching on google and somewhere I go the impression that a student has only 90 days to find a job using that post-graduate work permit regardless of how long the permit is valid for.

Please clarify, anyone.

Thanks.

As far as I know, as long as you have any kind of work permit, you can stay in Canada and look for work while it's still valid. I know this is the case for people who are on a closed work permit, tied to one employer. They can quit or be fired and still stay until their work permit expires.

The 90 days were before the open work permits were introduced and you would have 90 days to find a job in your field of study. Now, you don't need to do that. The permits are open work permits now and you can work for any employer unless your permit restricts you i.e. health, childcare etc
