hi All,

my master degree was of two years. after i was graduated i applied for PGWP and got the permit for 1.5 years instead of 3 years and they didn't mention any reason .

i have contacted CIC and they said that they have put a request and it takes about 3 months to get a response.

what should i do ? should i reapply right away ?

thanks

I believe the reason for 1.5 years is due to your passport expiry. Check if the passport expiry date is the same as wp expiry date. If that is the case, renew your passport and apply for extension as per your convenience before PGWP expiry.

Actually my visa expires on 2022. the actual reason might be because i completed my masters in 3 full term..but so do my friends..and they got a work permit of 3 years. im thinking of taking an official university letter stating that my program is of 2 years along with the personal letter stating my condition. i am the only case among all my freinds (30 ppl) who completed their masters in 3 full term and got a work permit of 1.5 years. iam not sure if i should reapply now or is there a time deadline/limit

One of my friend had same issue.. instead of re-applying he reached out to CIC to re-open the application mentioning he is eligible for 3 years work permit and not 1.5 years. After few weeks they extended his work permit to 3 years without charging any fee.

So i suggest reach out to them and lets see what they say. If they specifically ask you to apply then might as well do that along with a letter of explanation.

I did not refer to visa expiry but passport expiry. Can you recheck your passport expiry date and let us know.

I'm sorry, i meant my passport expires on 2022. I'm thinking of waiting for their response . i hope they don't take 3 months for that. it would be unfair if i only get 1.5 years of work permit after completing all the requirements . CIC agent specifically mention that reapplying should be done in your worst case scenario..but you can only reapply before one month of your expiry (doesn't make sense as it takes 3 months atleast to get a work permit and a bit risky).last year, one of my friend had the same situation and he reapplied right after he got his work permit and got a 3 years work permit.

thanks

Nope that re-applying is for instances where your existing work permit is for maximum eligible duration and now you need a new one.. in your situation it should have been 3 years anyways so you are only inquiring why it is 1.5 and not 3 years. My friend had same issue and they extended it to three once he inquired without any additional charge.
Good luck!

My brother is in a similar situation. He finished two years of study.. 2 1 year programs. Now he received a 1.5 year work permit. He's reached out to CIC. Not sure what the outcome will be. Has this issue with the OP been resolved? Haven't seen any comment fom him since.

Did his College letter state that he has graduated from a two year program?

He got two separate letters from the college for each 1 year program. Both mentioned what the graduation date was and what the duration of his program was. He attached both the letters with his application.

Either way it should not be a problem unless he applied for a work visa based on the work permit received. He can appeal to CIC explaining the condition.
