Has anyone done that before ? Cause I believe if canadian visa isn’t there flagpole is not advised..that’s what my friend told when he asked at the border during his flagpole.

I think the same. Imagine, you exit the country and you don’t have a US visa so they will turn you back, you don’t have a Canadian visa but going to apply at the border, but what if they decline your application then you would be out of status in both the countries and you might be sent back to your home country.
This would work perfectly, for visa exempt countries because if your WP application is declined you can still enter as a tourist.
