Hi. I need some expert advice..
I had applied for study permit back in November 2019 for winter 2020 session but unfortunately I missed this intake and deferred my program to next intake. My study permit is still in process, although I applied under SDS from Pakistan. My college/program is eligible for PGWP and my LOA states that I should apply for work permit along with my study permit. I haven't applied for work permit yet.. My questions are,
1. Can I apply for work permit now? As my study permit is still in process. If yes, then how? I checked from eligibility check from cic online services and it asked me if I have a written offer from an employer.. so i don't have an offer at this time. But at the same time if I select yes for offer letter, it didn't ask me for any supporting docs in the document checklist for work permit.

2. Should I apply for work permit or not at this time?

Guidance would be appreciated!
You can apply for your work permit simultaneously. Some people have gotten it in their port of entry.
This thread is for those who are processing their PGWP, your question might misguide people. I suggest you post the question in the appropriate forum or start a new thread for better answers and to avoid any confusion.

We are talking about PGWP in here, you need a coop work permit, different things.

If you applied with a LOA that states that working is part of the study program and you checked the correct boxes during application you will automatically get a coop work permit with your study permit at airport, you should remind them that you also need a COOP work permit, if you don't get it you will need to apply for it once in Canada with the help of your school, you don't need to apply for anything now.

I'm gonna share my story here.
Applied:October 13 2019
Approved:January 15 2020

Started my undergraduate since September 2014, it was quite challenging for me at the beginning, I even failed a few courses. Then I made a mistake, in order to prevent myself from failing more courses, I reduced my course load for 2 semesters (part time). Foolish me, I didn't know that was gonna impact my pgwp. I did catch up later and stay full time till I finished my undergraduate. That's the first mistake. Another mistake, I confused the 180 days window with the 90 days window, when I applied for pgwp, I was at some point between day 91 to day 179. I could still apply for a pgwp, but I already lost my status, foolish me again. So I launched my pgwp application and status restoration application at the same time. I wrote the best explanation letter I could, I even had one of my previous professors wrote me a letter to indicate that I was working hard, it's just quite challenging for me at the beginning. I totally lost hope to be honest. Then, I got my pgwp today, I'm extremely happy. I don't want to name my school for the sake of privacy, just let you know I was under social science department.

My advice, for those who are struggling, don't do part time semesters, just don't. In my case, I'm extremely lucky, but having part time semesters is quite risky. Also, plan ahead and don't leave anything to the last minute. Yes, you have up to 180 days to apply for pgwp, but keep in mind you will lose your study permit automatically 90 days. I'm sure most of you know this. Anyway, good luck with that. My case is a special one, again, don't make my mistake.
Congrats! Did you apply online or mail? I had no choice but to apply through mail because of an error due to expired SP that didn't allow me to submit my application online.

Congratulations! And thank you for sharing your stories and timeline. I have to apply for the pgwp and restoration at the same time as well on Oct 24th. This is my second time applying cause there was a dumb mistake i made in the first application. Luckily it was still in the 180 days time frame. Right now the processing is getting near, i keep my fingers crossed! :)
Also made a mistake on my first application :( Did you also apply online or mail with an expired SP on your 2nd application?

Did anyone else apply PGWP through mail? I just want to know the current approved date..

Hi guys, has anyone tried applying for a TRV with "In Canada Approval Letter" instead of attaching a scan of the PGWP?

It is taking a while now for my PGWP to arrive at my Canadian address by mail, and I need a TRV asap to re-enter Canada.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Re Post.

Hi Guys,

I need your suggestion. I submitted my spouse's open work permit extension along with my children's visitor record extension while my PGWP was in process. I have submitted all the required documents along with an explanation letter stating that my PGWP was in process and provided a corresponding letter from CIC. I got my PGWP few weeks back and was wondering if I should submit a copy of it to CIC? CIC haven't started reviewing my spouse's application yet.

Hello Everyone
I need some suggestions here regarding immigration.

I am an international student and i have applied for PGWP (end of October 2019). But due to some unavoidable circumstances i have to travel back home.

Situtaion: i don't have a valid student Visa and trv to re enter canada.

As per the t pgwp timeline i guess i will receive my PGWP soon but till that time I will not be here in Canada.

Can anybody please suggest if i can apply for my trv (visa) back home if i any how manage to get my pgwp approval letter (with person/mail) back home?
Let me know if it is possible? Or any other way which i can rely on?

Please help! Thanks

Yes when I made my second application when my sp was expired, and I made the application online. Do you have any update?

Hi,

I have the following situation:

1) I arrived in Canada in May 2019 and obtained my study permit for a 2 years Masters Program. Once I realized that its gonna be bit intensive than regular Fall and Winter, I informed my university that I need an extension for a year upto Spring/Summar 2020, which I obtained from the university ( the Uni is listed as a DLI). After two weeks of staying in Canada without formally registering for classes, I returned home. FYI, I didnt apply for SIN nor did work during this two weeks.

2) In December 2019, I came again and this time, I obtained my SIN, made payments to my university to register myself for the classes in Winter 2020 term. I intend to finish it within 2 years by taking minimum number of courses required for international students.

3) My question is, since I didnt officially initiate my studies before Winter 2020 and after entering Canada in May 2019, I left the country within two weeks w/out working, would I be eligible for PGWP when I finish my studies?

Your insight would lift a lot of stress.

And finally, as an aside, what is flagpoling?

Thanks in advance for patient reading and perhaps helping me to alleviate my concerns.

P.s. As I didn’t want to change my ticket date in May, I just travelled inside Canada to pass the 15 days.
