Post Graduate Work Permit - Help!!!

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding Post Graduate Work Permit. Currently I am doing my masters from Canadian university but it is only 1 year degree program so after completing my Master I will do one year of diploma course from post secondary college.

Master (2012-13)(1 year) + Diploma (2013-14)(1 year)

I just want to know that will I get 3 years or work permit or 1 year of work permit. Please explain.

You'll get a work permit as long as the duration of time that you stayed in Canada. So if I'm not mistaken, it would be a 2-year permit.

As far as I know, you will still only get a 1 year work permit. The reason being that if you do two different programs of 1 year each, your second program should be a logical extension of the first program. So, for example, if you did diploma first and then went on to do Masters, it would make you eligible for a 3 years work permit. However, in your case, it is not a logical extension, you are going 1 level down (from Masters to a diploma), so I have a feeling that it would entitle you to a 1 year permit only (or maybe 2 years, who knows), but I doubt it will be 3 years. 1. Yes, if it's a 1 year Master "Degree" + 1 extra year of course (completing with in 2 years after 1st course), you are eligible for a 3 year PGWP.
