Possible to move while application is processed?

I live in Sweden and my de facto spouse lives in Finland. We recently got approval that he can be my sponsor, so the first stage is done! :D

As the topic suggests, my question is if I can move to Canada (Quebec) before the PR is done? My de facto spouse is going to university in Montreal in the beginning of September, and I would very much like to move at the same time as him if possible. If not, it would at least be nice to know that its not possible.

Thanks!

When did you apply for your PR visa? I assume if your spouse got his Sponsor Approval that it was at least January or before. In that case, if your file is complete and approved by the Visa Office that will process it you might even have the PR visa by September -- worst case probably end of 2014. If there is a 'lag' between when your spouse returns to Canada and when you receive your PR visa I believe you should be able to visit him in Canada without need of a visa (assuming your from Sweden/Finland, visa exempt countries), just make sure to have a return ticket and by no means say to customs/immigration that you are 'moving' to Canada at that point. A 'move' implies full time residence in Canada, which you will only be eligible for once you have your PR visa.

Thank you very much for your response!

We applied for sponsorship in january, and last week we got approval.

Just one more question: So if I visit him before I get the PR, it's ok to be inside of Canada when the PR gets approved (I mean I don´t have to go out of the country and go back again)?

Yes you need to leave/re-enter Canada, so most outland applicants do this at their closest USA land border. It's a very simple process.

If you do travel to Canada during processing, make sure to change your mailing address with the visa office. In case your app is approved, they can mail your COPR landing documents directly to your address in Canada.

I'm surprised no one else has asked. Where in Canada on your application did you state your are going to settle? If you did NOT put Quebec then you will be missing one important step . . . obtaining your CSQ. When you apply for your Quebec Health Card they will ask for your CSQ.

Hi!

I'm also very surprised about this, I looked in the forum before I wrote but I couldn´t find anything.

We have filled in so many forms that I don´t remember that specific question...but I'm almost positive we did, since we are now are making a new application specifically for Quebec. Also, my fiancé has been very rigourus with the application, he has been the one who has done most of it since he has had more knowledge. I'm going to ask him to be sure though.

Thanks again!
