Hello All,
Hoping this community could provide advise:

I have started to explore studying in Canada and hopefully be able to pursue a PR. I have been working 15 years, 07/15 which in a managerial capacity but have been unable to complete my Bachelor’s. I have over 180 units earned: I have credits from my current University that’s less than 8 years old. A few questions:

1. Is it possible to transfer my current credits to a Canadian university to advance my standing?

2. In order to pursue PGWP, would you recommend a certificate course that I can later on use to earn a minor degree? If yes, how can I use the minor degree to earn my bachelor’s?

I was hoping to be able to use the course I will study to eventually be utilized towards earning a bachelor’s degree. I am unable to afford a full bachelor’s degree program in Canada as I am hoping to apply for PGWP upon completion of a certification course since I would really need to work full-time instead of just 20 hours/week. I was hoping to be able to get a full-time job then eventually take on part-time study to pursue my degree.

Thanks in advance for any help/tips you could provide.

Hope everyone stays safe.

1. Yes they will credit your 2 years in college equivalent to Grade 11 and Grade 12 in Canadian senior high.
2. Better for you to pursue at least 2-year diploma or 4-year college degree to be able to qualify for a 3-year PGWP, and should be related to your unfinished degree or work experience.

A certification is only 8 or 1 year program equivalent to the same length of PGWP.
You will just waste the PGWP they would grant on you if you decided to take this short program.
Your target is PR so aim for higher period of PGWP to be able to work after graduation and gain canadian work experience and have enough time to apply PR.

You need enough funds to sustain your educational and PR dream.

Hi RenRon,
Thank you for the feedback. Is it possible to get your help to clarify:

1)Do I need to go through IQAS assessment for this? I was wondering so I could work on it as part of preparatory stage as I understand this takes awhile

2)The 4 year college degree is pretty tough, this would mean that I can only work part-time (20hrs/wk) for the whole 04 years. Diploma might be feasible, I will have to check on this. Thank you for suggesting.

I was informed to prepare at least C$28,000 which includes C$10,000 per year to cover living expense. Considering it is 02 years duration would C$38,000 be sufficient for a diploma course?
Thank you again for your help. :)

Hi,

CAD38K is more than sufficient for you. One-year funds is only the requirement in Proof of Funds...the school will provide the one-year cost breakdown.
of course, more funds the better.
You dont need IQAS.
You can work full-time on semestral breaks.

You only need 2 steps for your study permit applications.

1. Enroll online, directly to your prospective school and if approved, they will provide you Letter of Acceptance.
(you just need to submit photocopies of your schools credentials and passport copy.)

2. Apply in CIC website for study permit. Wait for the result.

There you go.

PS. if you want know the docs needed in applying study permit in CIC website...apply for study permit and create temporary GC Key user account.

Hi RenRon,
Thank you for all the guidance. I will work on my research. I saw some tuition costs for international students for a year and it’s pretty costly.

Apart from working towards a PR and a good duration on PGWP; I was hoping to be able to use the diploma/minor degree - towards earning a Bachelor’s when I’m more stable. I wasn’t sure if the jobs I potentially land (part-time or full-time) as a student would be able to augment my education cost pursuing a Bachelor’s right off the bat.

Hopefully this route, the education investment (minor degree / diploma) at the onset is optimized. Again, thank you and keep safe!

check this out in toronto : https://www.centennialcollege.ca/programs-courses/full-time/?areasofstudy=business

they have office extension in Makati, Filipino staff and they will guide you.
i've just been accepted (not thru them/the makati office) thru online and directly from the school in toronto.

if you still not taken up IELTS or you do not want to...search for schools which do not require IELTS.
some schools have their own english assessment test and does not require IELTS.
