Good day guys/ladies,

I have this crucial question about my situation. I got my PR but not PR card yet and I have this important trip to make out of Canada. My question is can I use my earlier given working visa which is still valid to return to Canada? I would have opted for the option of getting a traveling document but I will only be away from Canada for few days while to process permanent resident's traveling document where I'm flying to takes 4weeks minimum. Please has anyone use it before? Please share your experiences. Thanks! Linda

As far as I know your work visa is void as soon as you become a PR. you will need a PR card to re enter canada or a travel document.... Just keep in mind that the PAFSO strike might delay issuance of travel document

Thanks, but the work visa was not cancelled when I did landing.. They only cancelled Immigrant visa. What do I do now as I don't have much time to apply for traveling document

Not sure what they'll actually do, but the official response is you can use the COPR to re-enter Canada only at a land border (not flying). If you're flying, you need your PR Card or a Travel Document.

Yes you're right. The traveling document is a form or visa right? so that's why I think the work visa will work

guys, do you know the processing time for travel document?

I heard that people can land not leaving Canada..i mean there are places where you go and give your paper..is that correct? Anyone knows..

dont know what u r asking about?

Try this: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-urgent-processing.asp

You can apply for urgent processing if your card will not be ready before you leave.

To qualify for urgent processing, you must be:

  • travelling in the next three months, and
  • returning to Canada on a commercial vehicle, like an airplane, train, boat or bus.

I really... really don't get the question. Please re-phrase.

Once you land as a permanent resident all your other visas(tourist, student, worker) are no longer valid. You became a permanent resident and can not enter Canada with any other status. So you either have to get a travel document or enter from the US by land with your own car or a rental car.

I think he meant flagpoling or doing the landing at the local cic office.

Once you receive your Confirmation of Permanent Residence you can call CIC and book an appointment to do your landing at a local office but usually you will get an appointment for 2-3 weeks later.
