I just thought of something. I had always assumed that my wife and son would come in from the Philippines to Winnipeg as it's the closest city to me. Is there actually a place that they would have to come into Canada first to see an Immigration Officer? Or would there be one at the Winnipeg Terminal?

Immigration officers are present at all major airports and land entry points.

So then, when my husband comes, he could land in Toronto first before coming to Vancouver. We talked about the other option of first landing at Heathrow Airport and then flying to Vancouver but truth be told I'm really worried for him. He doesn't speak any English. And when I went through London it was terribly confusing, maneuvering my way through there.
Can we arrange it with the airline to help him, or just put a note attached to his jacket? We jokingly talked about this, a note that says "Help me, I'm going to Vancouver. I don't speak English." he thinks he'll be fine,
just knowing the airline numbers and times to catch which flights...
But then he will be alone when he talks to the Immigration officer at the Point of Entry, in either Vancouver or Toronto, right?

I agree, Heathrow airport is one heck of an airport to try to get through. My advice - follow everyone else. There's usually at least one person on your first flight who knows where they're going/where the gate numbers are. If he can fly one way from his country to Canada then I would definitely suggest that. However if he has to connect somewhere, try connecting to a smaller airport. When he buys his ticket check to see where the connecting flight will be and I would base your decision on that. And he can land anywhere in Canada, they ahve immigration officers at every airport.

I just think it would be better if I was in the same airport as him as the Immigration officer. I just hate the thought of him being so vulnerable to everything. When I went to Turkey, his whole family was there, I felt so safe there in Turkey. I wasn't lost or I never doubted where to go. I just hope our airports make as much sense to him as his. I think the best I can do, is make sure he gets a flight to Toronto, and then on to Vancouver. Thanks for the response scarycemetery :D

Try to leave four hours between the Toronto flight landing and the Vancouver flight taking off so that he has time to make it through immigration and land. If there are line ups, two hours may not be enough.

Good point scylla. I guess I'll have to have faith that it's gonna work out. He can phone me lots once he gets
to Canada. Make sure he has everything he needs to give to the Immigration Officer. And all I was worried was him just coming to Canada, maybe getting lost, I hadn't really considered that there would be specific
things the VO might ask Murat. I'll just be so relieved when he's here :)
