Port of Entry

Hello all,

1. Can someone tell me what documents do I need to show in the Port of Entry, what do they ask etc?

2. In the application approval email CIC mentioned that I will be issued a study permit upon my arrival in Canada (POE) subject to compliance with the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and its Regulations. Now, what is Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

3. Is Toronto the only the Port of Entry? A friend of mine from US has Air miles and if he buys a ticket for me it will be a lot cheaper however the itinerary shows that the port of entry will be Calgary. Can calgary be considered a port of entry? Because when I enter Canada I will have to go through immigration process which usually takes place in Toronto Pearson international airport.

3. my POE was at Vancouver, not toronto, bec. i landed in vancouver first then in toronto. and i got my study visa in Vancouver.
i will study in toronto, btw.

1) passport
2) visa(if ur not from visa exempt country)
3) letter of introduction
4) college / university admission letter
it is a good idea to carry all the documents that u used to apply for visa just in case.

there r a lot of other port of entries some by air some by road etc calgary is one of the port of entries. POE is the place where u first enter canada. u will have no problem if u enter canada in calgary and then go to toronto all the immigration procedure will happen in calgary .

HI guys, thanks for the reply. Well so my POE will be Calgary. But my destination will be Winnipeg. Does that mean they will issue my study permit (visa sticker on passport) in Calgary?

yes they will issue study permit in Calgary ...what is the visa sticker? study permit is a piece of paper and visa counterfoil should be already on ur passport.

I am a Bangladeshi applicant and we have to submit our passport in the singapore embassy. Well I still didnt receive my passport yet (it has been dispatched and due to arrive soon) from the embassy so dont know what will be there. I just got an email saying that my application for study in Canada has been approved and my study permit will be issued upon my arrival in Canada. By visa sticker I actually meant the visa counterfoil

u will get ur passport with the visa and then either u have got the LOI in email or u will get LOI with ur passport once u get it. u will need both LOI and passport with visa at the POE to get study permit.

3) Is it Letter of Introduction? I did get a letter in the email saying that my application has been approved. But it does not have any heading saying ''letter of introduction''. Although It has my permit type and document no. etc

does it have a table with valid till date and reference numbers etc on it? saying ur study permit/work permit is approved etc?

Hey mead, Yes it has a table consisting of permit type - SP, Document no. and Permit validity. And at the beginning of the letter it says "Your application to study or work in Canada has been approved.

So when I get my passport will I see a visa counterfoil in one of the pages? Sorry for asking petty questions, just wanna be dead sure u know

yes thats ur LOI and yes u will get passport with visa counterfoil/sticker on one of the pages.
and there r no petty questions..its good to ask questions
