Hi, I'm going to make a refugee claim at the port of entry. What will happen next? If anyone has applied for asylum at the POE, could you describe your experience, please.? I have read a lot of official information. But I want to know how things really are. Thank you!

if you have safe third country exemption then it will take 4-5 hours at port of entry....you will be interviewed by officers which is basic questions like family members info in canada etc and will receive the brown paper and do biometrics there....easy and hassle free only if u have exemption

I'm coming not from US, and I'm going to make my claim at airport. Will it be an exemption?

then you dont have exemption....you will have to go through a lengthy process at airport. Nevertheless your eligibility interview wont be done at airport it will be taken later...which maybe even after a year

The asylum system is extremely overwhelmed. Would be prepared for long wait times for WP, hearings, limits on how much legal aid people will qualify for, etc. If you have any other options for economic immigration I would choose that.

What if somebody is ineligible to apply for asylum in Canada based on the fact that he already has a pending asylum claim in the United States; but if he is scared under Trump's ongoing mass deportation plan of not getting a fair chance of hearing while he falls under one of the exceptions under the Safe 3rd Country Agreement, can he still apply for asylum at Canadian border from the United States under that exception and does that still make him eligible under the exception?

If you had experience in the same sort of situation, please share your experience and guide me accordingly. Thanks
