Police report does not show my conviction

Hi, I went to court and got fined for a minor offence and presumed I had a conviction (it was my first time in court and I didn't really know what was going on but at the time I was pretty sure I got a conviction). I decided to try and apply for a temporary work visa anyway and see what happened. Today I got my police report back and it shows that I have NO CONVICTIONS!
It might be that I didn't actually get a conviction OR the police report might be a mistake.
Does Canadian immigration double-check with my countries relevant authorities or just accept the police report?

Some countries practice expungement of criminal record. That is, if a certain amount of time has passed since the conviction and you haven't been accused in any other crimes, your criminal record is erased. That might be your case.

As for the last question, I'd like to hear an answer to it too:
