Hello everyone,

My spouse is currently applying for Permanent Residence under Family Class (me being the sponsor).

We so far seem to have all the necessary documents we require except for the Police Clearance. It is quite difficult for her to get a copy as she is currently residing in the UK, but she has lived a few years in Bangladesh as well. We have figured how to get a copy of the Police Clearance from the UK, but finding it difficult and time consuming to obtain one from Bangladesh.

My question is if we submit the form now, is it possible to send the Police Clearance form a few months later? Or would that cause a major delay in processing our file? I am afraid that CIC will deem the application Incomplete and return the application.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey shorg,

If your application is otherwise complete, I think it's OK to send the application. Include a letter explaining that you are working on obtaining the one from Bangladesh, and that you will send it as soon as you get it. (politely of course!). include copies of attempts and correspondences showing that you have started to get the police clearance from Bangladesh, as well as as much details as possible if you know when you will get it. Explain that because you want to avoid the other police clearance to expire ( they need to reach CIC 3 months at the latest after they have been issued), you have chosen to send your application but you will send the one from Bangladesh as soon as you receive it.

I have done that ( sent my application without police clearance and sent it at a later stage) and my application (through London) was completed without delay.

Once you get the police certificate from Bangladesh, wait until you have the file number ( and your file has been transferred to London after sponsorship approval), and then send it to London.

I did that and it worked - but make sure that you mention n your file that you're working on getting the clearance so that your file is not returned for being incomplete.

Good luck for the process,
Sweden

Hi Sweden,

Thanks a lot for your help.

Just to clarify we still haven't received a police clearance from the UK. We are currently working on it as my wife does not know anyone from the list of people who can sign a copy of her photograph (lawyer, civil servant, etc). Do you think it would be a good idea to send in the application without a Police Clearance from both the UK and Bangladesh?

Also, what kind of documents should I include when explaining that we are currently working on it? What type of documents did you send out to prove this - if you don't mind me asking?

I would send it in once you get the UK clearance. I don't know what the list of people who can sign the documents are, but it's not normally difficult to find them. Once in Australia I went down to the post office and got the manager of the post office to sign my things. Another time my husband made a doctor's appointment and got his blood pressure checked and documents verified by the doctor at the same time.

On advice from our lawyer, my husband sent in my PR application without my police clearance certificates. The cover letter pointed out that they had been ordered and would follow as soon as we got them. (I didn't bother sending additional proof that they had been ordered, but then again mine were US and UK.) I then sent them in about a month later after we got them and we had the file number/UCI from CIC to note in that cover letter. I had my daughters' pediatrician sign my picture for the UK cert. during an appointment.

It depends how many police certificates you have in total and how many you are missing I would say. If you need 2 (one from Bangladesh and one from the UK) and have none of them, then I would recommend to wait to have at least one done.... and then send the application. The only justification to send it earlier was that the first one could expire... so I would say wait for the one for the UK to arrive (see further advices on how to get it from other posters), and then send it in....

To prove that you are working on getting the document - explain what you have done to get it, and how far in the process you are. For my case, I was trying to get one from a country where I needed special permission, so I printed all the emails I had been exchanging with somebody in the country, explaining the steps, what needed to be done, what were the potential difficulties - by the time I sent my application, I had already 4 or 5 different emails with different dates showing that I was trying to get it but it would take time, etc etc... and it seemed to work.

Good luck,
Sweden
