Police clearance validity confusion....

Hello Guys!

Hope you are all well...

I have confusion about validity of a foreign country police clearance. I have gone through old posts and the answers are quite contrasting.
Some people say that the certificate is valid indefinitely as long as you got it after you left the foreign country. However, some people say that they are only valid for 3 months.

Thanks,
Richie

Valid only for 3 months. Your application should reach CIC within 3 months of the issue date of the PCC. Information verified by immigration consultant.

Not correct. They are valid indefinitely if you've never lived in that country (at all OR for more than 6 months in a row - that is disputed) from the last time you obtained the PCC.

Immigration consultant versus CIC official website, according to you, which one is more authoritative?

The three months rule is outdated. Please review CIC's current rules here:

Yes to this. In this link, "For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country."

And that is the source of the confusion - this sentence can be interpreted in 2 ways. Conservatively, this means you need a fresh PCC from Country X if you visited that country even for 2 hours (for a quick business lunch, if you move around in such circles) a day AFTER getting a PCC from that country. Others (including me) interpret this as meaning you need a PCC only when you have lived there for 6 months or more in a row and not for shorter visits thereafter.

That is right, I agree with you Dan, Miumiu and Asivad. According to the CIC website they should be valid indefinitely after leaving the country.

Cheers guys!

Hi Asivad,

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I just applied Indian PCC at Consulate General of India in Canada. I'm eligible to apply apply for EE in November. However, I'm not sure when I'm getting ITA (probably more than 7-8 months from now). Will my PCC valid at time of ITA? Also, I'm planning to visit India in between for less than month. Do I need to apply new PCC afterwards? Please confirm. I'm on PGWP and will be applying under CEC.

Appreciate your support.

Thank you.

You will defiantly need pcc if u go back for visit . The website clearly says your pcc shouldn't be more then 6 months old from your current country and in that case it is canada. It also mention u need pcc if u have lived in a county other then your current country

Thanks for your response. I'm confused. Website says "For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply." In my case, country i'm living is Canada. I heard for Canada I don't need police clearance (they conduct their own checkup), but will still apply later on through RCMP or whatever the procedure is.

They PCC I applied is for country where I lived in past, that is India although I applied through Indian embassy within Canada (I could also apply in India, same thing). "For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country" Website doesn't indicate any validity about this. Please clarify.

Thanks once again.

I believe that if you get a PCC now and visit India for a month next year, your PCC would still be valid. It would be valid till you go back and live in India for 6 months or more in a row.

Thanks Asivad. That's what I thought. However, after I applied, I came to know that PCC will be valid for 6 months only. Any suggestions on this?

If you don't go back and live in India, that PCC is valid indefinitely.

Hi

I got my PCC for India in Mar 2015. I am currently in Canada and have not visted back India after 2013 May.

Would this PCC suffice or Do I need to request a fresh PCC. I am submitting my PR application now.
