Hi All,

I went through multiple threads regarding timeline for Police Clearance certificates from Indian Embassy in New York. The timeline (as mentioned on the website) can vary between 4 days to a minimum of 30 days.

I assumed given my situation that the PCC would take at least 30 days since my Passport was issued in India (not issued from the NY consulate). However, to my surprise, I had the clearance letter in my hands within 1 hour of me submitting the documents. Here is how it went:

1) I prepared in advance the following documents:
- Miscellaneous Application form (can be found on Consulate website)
- Nationality Verification Form (can be found on Consulate website)
- Copies of all pages of my passport
- Copy of residence proof (there are nuances to this which I will explain later)
- Other address proofs
- Cash payment of USD 42

2) I walked in to the consulate at 8:45 am. Highly recommend reaching early since it gets busy, and there are 1-2 people looking at the documentation. I was given a token, and was 7th in line

3) When called, I submitted all my documents. I had a state ID card with a Massachusetts address (and no longer live there). They said it was NO PROBLEM.

4) I was given a receipt and told to wait for 1 hour.

5) In 50 minutes, my name was called, and the police verification document was handed to me.

I want to believe that the consulate is processing these on the same day, however, it all depends on whether the records show up online. In my case, my passport was fairly recent (issued in Jan 2018), and I remember having my police verification done online for that. I assume this is why they processed it so soon.

Hope this helps. In any case, the people working at the consulate are really helpful, and will hand-hold you through the process in case there are glitches. There were multiple cases when I was sitting there, where I saw them helping out applicants in a very calm manner.

I'm in US on my B1/B2 Visa, I want to get my PCC done for Canada Immigration. Please let me know if I can do on Visit Visa and what kind of residence proof I can submit along with the application.
