Friends, I need inputs here.. Has anyone got their PCC for India from the Indian embassy at Washington DC. I stay in North Carolina and my state comes under the Washington DC embassy's jurisdiction.

Here is my problem - I checked their website and found that it may take upto 45 days for them to issue the PCC. They are asking to send the original passport with the application form. As I am going on an international travel in the beginning of Jan 2010, I do not want to send my passport to them at this time. From other posts, I came to know that we can send notarized copy of our passport and once they get the PCC they will notify us to send the original passport, in this way our passport will be out of our hands for max of 3 to 5 days. One friend had done this with the embassy at SFO. Anyone knows if Washington DC does it this way?????

From their website I found their contact number and tried calling them N number of times. Left so many messages. No response. Also got an email id for their counsellar wing and mailed them few times. still no response.

Please share your thoughts that would help me understand how I can go about with this one... I have got my AOR from CIO and my 120 days countdown has already started. Thanks.

Hi,

If your passport is issued by Indian Embassy Washington DC the PCC can be received within a week. Otherwise, it require 45 days as they need to gather the information from India. As you are decided and planned for a travel, there is no other alternative, other than submitting the notorized copy of your PP with the application for PCC.. Try your luck!!.

Pasi...I'm in the same boat as you are in. Live in Charlotte and tried calling DC Embassy but no luck.
Did you send your passport or are sending a notarized copy?

Hi Dondon, I have tried all means of contacting the Washington embassy and no luck. So I have sent notarized copy of my passport with the PCC application form. I sent it 2 days back. Let me see if they are going to do the verification using my notarized copy. If not, I am planning to send my application to Buffalo with a letter that I will provide my India PCC later. I am going to India in the month of Jan and I am planning to get it from there if I am not getting it from here.

I tried to do the same at the Indian Embassy here in Abu Dhabi. But they didn't give me a choice. I had to leave my passport with them and it took almost 40 days to get it back with the Police Clearance. If the passport is issued in the same embassy, then it takes 5 working days. If not, the standard is 40 working days.

Thats what I see in the website. And I am having problems in leaving my passport with them for 40 days.

Pasi...let me know how it goes. I emailed Washingont Embassy and they replied but it's not clear. I asked them if I can send notarized copy and they said yes...only 1 word response.
Did you also send your notarized visa copy?

Dondon - to which email id did you mail them? I had mailed them twice and never got a response. Based on the suggestion from one friend, I had sent the notarized copy of my passport. It should have reached them in the last week. One of my friend did this with SFO embassy. They intimated him once the verification is done. Later he went in person to the embassy and got it stamped in 1 day. I am hoping I will be getting an intimation either through email or phone. If I get that, I can also go to Washington and get it stamped in my passport in one day.

Thank you dondon. no updates from my end for now. I will update this thread once I hear back from the Washington embassy..

Not yet. As I said, I have mailed the form and passport copy to the DC embassy. I also emailed to the id that you gave me. No response from them till today.

Pasi: I have posted this response on my thread too. I had to send my passport to the DC Indian Embassy for around 40 days. I had first called the DC Embassy people and they had said that original passport is needed.

I hope the notarized copies work for you!

Thanks,
