I am a Canadian citizen living in Canada and my wife is Indian. She will be applying for Permanent Residence in Canada and has all her documents ready for submission - except a Police Clearance Certificate from the Maldives.
Immigration Canada requires police clearance certificates from countries the applicant has resided in for six months and over. My wife currently lives in India and has worked in the Maldives for 9 months, back in 2009. Despite emailing, calling, applying through post for a Police Clearance Certificate from the Maldives, it is impossible to get one.
The applicant has two choices -
1. Be physically present in the Maldives to collect the Police Clearance Certificate
2. Send copies of documents and a form through post, including a prepaid stamped envelope for the Clearance Certificate to be sent to the applicant. The stamp must be Maldivian and the fees for the clearance are to be made in Maldivian currency.
Maldivian Stamps not available for purchase in any country other than the Maldives so there is no way to receive it by mail. My wife has even considered going to the Maldives just to get the Clearance Certificate but even though it states 5 days application time, most applications take over a month. She could travel to Maldives for 5 days but staying there indefinitely till the certificate is available is unreasonable.
When she applied in India, for some reason, they issued her an Indian Police Clearance Certificate for immigration to Maldives. Which is not what we asked for, as we have clearly stated that we require Maldives Police Clearance for immigration to Canada.
Is there anyone who has faced the same issue or know anyone who has.
Would there be a way to inform the CIC that this document is not obtainable during the application process.
I would appreciate any suggestions/help.
