Hello,

I have read lots of post here which say that you can have police clearance from passport office.
But when we see the cic website it says that "You can apply at your local District Police Station."

Does CIC acknowledge the police clearance issued by passport office?

Has anyone obtained the police clearance through passport office and have faced any issues in express entry application?

Best Regards,

As per my research, you can get PCC from passport office if you live in Delhi. Otherwise, contact the local police station. Many state police have their websites where you can download the PCC form.

Hi, I have asked everywhere to find an answer for this

Till around May early this year, CIC website mentioned that PCC from Passport Seva Kendra is accepted. However, recently they have changed the content. Now, people from Delhi can get PCC through Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

However, everyone outside Delhi "may get their police clearance from their district Commissioner's Office."

Hence, there will be many cases from earlier this year, where PCC from PSK is accepted. But we don't really know the case of people who have submitted PCC from PSK since the change by CIC

My suggestion is, the day you receive ITA, go to the Commissioner's Office and apply for PCC as it takes around 20 days (duration may vary). And also take an appointment from the PSK website.

Bottom line is, till there's a concrete proof that any one of the two PCCs is accepted by CIC, submit both.

It doesn't really matter because the verification is solely done by local police who are empowered as well as authorized to do so. So both PSK or SSP/SP office are dependent upon the report written by the local police. The one I got has been issued from SSP office and you won't believe it is on a plain paper (no letter head) but with the SSP office seal. When I asked the clerk he said he issues exact such reports for Canadian embassy at least 15 per week. May be, the one from PSK is on letter head or might seem more authentic but everyone knows that it is only the local police who performs this job. In my opinion, either should be fine.

Best and safest way is to go to the commissioner office (if your city has the commissionerate) or SP office and apply for a PCC.

In Delhi, you can do this online.

Most of the states now have service guarantee. PCC will be issued within 21 days of application. Local thana person will come for verification and will ask for letters from neighbours.

I got my PCC in 13 days which included Eid and 2nd Oct holidays plus sundays.

In general and notwithstanding anything written on the CIC site about this subject, one would expect that any such document (PCC) issued by a federal agency (the passport authorities, in this instance) would be valid, binding and legitimate. The passport authorities in any country are the de facto custodians and ambassadors for their citizens' outward facing relationships to other countries. Any document originating from their end will necessarily be equally, if not more, legitimate than the corresponding document issued by any provincial authorities (the local police, in this instance).

Just my $0.02.
