Who needs a police certificate?

In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have lived for six or more months in a row since the age of 18.

The certificate must be issued no more than three months before you apply.

------------

This 3 month rule is a really stupid rule by Canadian embassy , since most PCC are valid for 12 months.

The hoops you have to go through just to get a PCC in most countries is a nightmare, and by the time it arrives in our mail 1-2 months are gone and the date of issue on the PCC is 1-2 months back , so this 3 month rule by Canada screws you up , even though the PCC itself is valid for 12 months.

Anyways ..it is what it is ..not much you can do about it.

---------

My question is when I mail the application , do they check the post marked date on the application or when the actually receive the application and start processing it , to see if the PCC was issued in the last 3 months or not ?

Say the PCC was issued to me on July 1 -2013 ( date of issue on the PCC ) and I mail in my application on August 1- 2013 , and they open the application on Sep 1 - 2013 , do they see 3 months back PCC issued date validity , from Aug 1 ( post marked date ) or Sep 1 ( opening of my application date )

How exactly the PCC should not be issued more than 3 months back rule is applied , when does the 3 month countdown begin ?..although the PCC itself is valid for 12 months ?

The "lock in date" is the one where they officially received the application. So, in your example, somewhere about August 7th.

Ok cool , so when it says AOR received ..the PCC should not be issued more than 3 months before this AOR received date :)..although the PCC itself is valid for 12 months.

In CIC's eyes police check papers are valid for 3 months after they are issued. So you could submit your inland sponsorship without any police check. You can wait until CIC requests for it. Once they ask for it, as long as the police check is submitted before 3 months after the police check issued date, the check will be valid. Even though some police check are good for 1 year, they are good for the first 3 months of issuence. Who is to say that you submit an police check saying you are clean only to commit an offense 4-5 months after it first issued. This is why CIC will only accept police check for 3 months after it is issued. It does not mean that you have to submit police check with your application within 3 months. It just means that the police check has to be good within 3 months when they request it.

"The certificate must be issued no more than three months before you apply. "
Is this 3-month issued date applied for the PCC of the country that I don't currently live in?
I got my PCC from the US last 6 months, and visited US for 1 day after that. Do I need to re-apply for the PCC from the US?
Thank you.
