Hello, Do you need a police check from both the country of residence and the country of origin ?
thank you

You need a PCC for any country (except Canada) for which you spent more than 6 months in total since the age of 18.

Yes, you need PCC from every country you live in more than 6 months plus Canada (if you are in Canada).

+1 if this helps

No you do need a PCC from Canada whatsoever, whether you lived here or not.

CIC does its own background check for Canada

Oh okay sweet thanks so much ! I've lived in my country of origin 5 months after I turned 18 and another vacation trip for one month so that's a total of 6 months I guess . So i would need both .

Hey guys,

I came to Canada when I was 17yr+ 7 months, only spent 5 months plus 27 days in my origin country after age of 18.
In this case, Do I still need to submit 2 Police certificateS?
I am applying Express entry and Caring people of high medical needs.

Technically, you do not need one. Your application can not be turned down for not providing the PCC. As a precautionary measure, you may try to get hold of one in case they ask for it later. They might not allow you as much time as is usually required to get PCC from a country you do not reside in.

Hi nomzie,
Thanks for your reply. Do you think I should go to a Canadian local police office and request Police Clearance letter as well? I saw a page from CIC mentioned that it is not necessary to get a police certificate if you are already in Canada, however, another page says I should get a police certificate if I am currently living there. A lot of confusion there ..

For your reference:

In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate.

You may need a police certificate from any country or territory that you have spent six months or more since the age of 18.

For example: if you visited, worked or lived in a country for two months, left for a few years, then returned for four months, that counts as spending six months there. In this case, you would need a certificate.

If you need a police certificate from a country or territory and:

are currently living there, or received the police certificate before leaving, the police certificate must be issued within six months before you apply.
have lived there in the past, the police certificate must be issued after you last lived in that country or territory.

They would conduct a criminal record check themselves, if required. You do not need to do anything.
