Hello!
I'm a Canadian currently living in Thailand, and I'll be moving with my Thai wife to Canada next month. We plan to apply for her PR soon after we arrive in Canada with the inland application. My wife is currently on a Canada tourist visa which will expire August 2019.
I'm wondering if she's supposed to get a police check while we're here in Thailand, before we go to Canada/before we send in the PR application? On the GIC website it says: "Do I need to provide a Police Certificate with my Application for Permanent Residence? No.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada will send you a letter requesting a police certificate after you send your Application for Permanent Residence. You must bring that letter when you apply for a Police Certificate."
So she's not supposed to provide a police check? What about if they request the police check while she's staying in Canada, starting next month? She wouldn't be able to get the police check in Thailand while staying within Canada for 6 months.
Or will she be able to do the police check within Canada?
If she is indeed required to get the police check while in Thailand, I have another worry. I see mention that her family would need to get police checks as well. They live in a far away village in the north of Thailand, and in order to get a police check in Thailand you need to go Bangkok. This doesn't seem realistic for her, especially since we'll be leaving in less than 1 month.
Any clarification on this would be much appreciated, thanks.
