Police Certificates

So I know that the police certificates are only valid for 3 months after recieving them. My question is:

If I send in my police certificate in with my application (and they are valid), but they expire at some point during the application process, will they request new certificates, or will they send the application back and we'd have to go through the whole thing all over again?

Police clearances are valid for 1 year, but they must be less than 3 months old when they reach CIC-M. If the process takes more than 1 year to complete they can ask you to resubmit new police clearances.

They must be received within 3 months of being issued but they expire 1 year after being issued. Therefore, they could ask for updated police certificates if the process takes over one year, but won't necessarily.
