I was hoping someone could confirm something for me.

I am a Canadian citizen married to an American citizen and we both have been living in the uk for more than 6 months. I understand my wife as the sponsored family member needs to complete the police check form form the uk.

However do I the Canadian citizen need to complete one?

also as she lived in the usa prior to uk will she need to complete a police form from the us and does that have to be done in person?

thanks in advance

You, as the sponsor, do not have to provide police certificates. Your wife will need to provide them from any countries in which she lived for more than six months. The FBI record check (US police certificate) is requested by mail: http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/submitting-an-identification-record-request-to-the-fbi. I think it took around 8 or 9 weeks for me to get mine back.

Thank you so much for the info and link. As we are in the UK and on FBI website says wife will need fingerprints taken will that be easy to do in London? Any suggestions?
Thanks

No clue on the fingerprints. My situation is a little different. I'm in Canada with my husband, but he's military, so we were able to get them done on the base.

I did a quick search, and here are some links that might be relevant:
http://www.met.police.uk/sco/specialist_units/fingerprint_services.htm (wow, expensive!)
http://www.ukfingerprints.com/ (can't quickly find the price on that one)

If neither of those work, I'd starting by contacting nearby police agencies and asking if they can help, or if they can direct you to someone who can. Good luck!

print out the fingerprint form and the application from the fbi website. Then go to any local police station near you ask them if they can fingerprint you or tell you where to do so.
