Hi,

I studied in the US for 1 year in 2000, i currently live in Algeria, is it MANDATORY to get the police certificate from the US ? This is too much of a hassle, would it be a problem if i don't mention i've been in the US during the process (any). ? Thank you

Invitations to apply – Skilled immigrants (Express Entry)

Note: You now have 90 days to finish your online application for permanent residence once you are invited to apply. Find out more about the recent changes to Express Entry.

If you are invited to apply for permanent residence, you will need to show proof of the information you gave us in your Express Entry profile. We will refuse your application if the information in your profile is different from what you submitted in your application.

If we invite you to apply, you will get a message in your account telling you:

which program you are invited under, and
what to do next.

If we find that you misrepresented yourself (gave us false information or left out important details), we will refuse your application. In that case:

your application could be refused,
you could be found inadmissible, and
you could be barred for five years from applying to come to Canada for any reason.

Police certificates

You will need to get police certificates for you and each of your family members who are over 18. You must get one from each country or territory where you have spent six or more months since the age of 18.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

In some countries, it can take a long time to get police certificates. If you did not start the process to get them before you were invited to apply, you should do this right away, so you can submit them before the 90 days are up.

If you were in the states for a year since you turned 18 you have to get a police check. The whole visa process is a hassle and that attitude is not going to help with the rest of the application process.

Yes it takes time to get the clearance from FBI, but YOU MUST SUBMIT IT. If you don't, they'll find out with your passport and you'll find yourself in deep trouble. Is it really worth it? Absolutely NOT.

So get your FBI clearance certificate when you submit your application

Omitting it is likely grounds for a misrepresentation case, which will not only get your application rejection but could get you banned from Canada.

Additionally, it's "too much of a hassle" to supply documentation required? I don't quite think you understand the amount of effort immigrating takes..

All right guys let me clear this up:

1) Who the hell would take my fingerprint in a third world country, there are no agencies like this. Would the local police do that for me, i highly doubt it but i might try.
2) In the FBI form, they are asking for the social security number however i lost mine, i didn't keep it it's been more than 16 years for god's sake ! how can i solve that ?
3) someone say they would know from my passport ? How ? this is a new passport and i had four passports ever since ? how could they know i've been in the US, do you uys think canada can check with US gov agencies and they would give them the information, i doubt it and why would they precisely target the US there are more than 180 countries out there. Can anybody tell me and provide me with some realistic solution.

This is extremly unfair, all the trouble i went through and something like this can F**kit up

You have to get an FBI check.

Fly to another country to get fingerprints if you have to. CIC and USA share information freely and this is something that can easily be checked. Getting your SSN is easy to do if you filled taxes etc.

That's the only advice you are going to get from everyone here. If you don't want it, submit whatever you want.

2) You can write "Do Not Have" in the SSN field. Additionally, you could always contact the US Social Security Administration to see if it is possible to get the old number. (Here is their number in case it's too much of a hassle to google: 1-800-772-1213 )
3) If you think the US Border Patrol and Canada's Border Patrol do not talk, you are sadly mistaken. The relationship between the two countries is much closer than that of say, Canada and Saudi Arabia or Russia.

As Kryt0n says, if you don't want advice, don't ask for it. Life isn't fair; immigration isn't suppose to be easy. And frankly, with all that is going on in the world today with attacks and such, you're naive if you think Canada would allow immigration of anyone without a background check from each country they've lived in.

Agree with Kyrton.

I sense a feeling of entitelement here.

Fingerprints can be taken by yourself as per FBI website. To be safe take 3 sets and send it in one envelope.

SSN is only needed if you want the last 4 digits on your FBI police clearance ; its not mandatory.

Have heard that ; CIC does share info with US & vice versa. Assuming that CIC will not know about your US visits is incorrect.

Make sure you take 2-3 set of fingerprints.

When i was sending my, i have sent 5 :) to be on a safe side...

Many only 1 set have had their request rejected, dont risk it.

Andy, how long did it take for you between sending the fingerprints and receiving the certificate ? (that is if you were living outside the US)

Irrespective of where you live, it takes 10 to 12 weeks to get the report. Submit it ASAP. I believe CIC gives you two 60 day extensions if you submit a proof that you have already submitted the FBI PCC application.

One related question to FBI to others.. I submitted my FBI PCC request on Jan 17th and I expect it take 12 weeks to get the report best case. If anything goes wrong with finger prints, I might need to apply again. I got my ITA on Jan 25.

I learnt that CIC gives extensions (two 60 days) for submitting FBI PCC due to processing delays if one requests for it submitting the proof of submission along with the e-APR. My question is does one need to wait till the end to submit the application and request for extension. Or can I submit as soon as I have other documents along with LOE + proof of applying and submit PCC once I get it?

I would wait until the last minute to submit my application and request the extension then. The more time you have to get the PCC the better.
