Hi all.

I applied for CEC within the 6 months mark of living in the Netherlands and also moved home to England a few weeks after so am surprised to of just received a request for a Dutch police certificate. I tried to inform them of my change of address as soon as I moved back to England by contacted the Ontario office to ask which office was dealing with my visa so I could then change it online. However, I have still not received a reply.

I just emailed them using the webform telling them all this and supplying my new address but at the end it said they will not contact me if my visa application is still within the suggested waiting time, so what am I supposed to do? They want me to inform them of any changes so my application can go forward but will not reply if my application is still...going forward? This makes no sense. I also cannot call them as I am not in Canada.

I can get a Netherlands police check but not only will it be costly as it will have to be translated it's unlikely I will be able to get it within the time limit, they've only given me a month which is ridiculous.

What should I do? Will they infact read my email, see I left the Netherlands within the 6 month mark and change my address, or will they totally ignore it? Obviously the clock is ticking and I really need some advice. This was totally unexpected. On the plus, does this mean everything else in my application was good?

Thanks guys

Hi there,

First off calm down, it's not the end of the world. Address change takes a while, as they have to input it manually after your request. I'd give it two to four weeks for address change.

Stop sending them more requests, it just makes them more confused. To answer your question; yes, indeed they will eventually read your email and update your profile. But again, it might take some time.

If I were in your shoes I would apply for Netherlands certificate regardless. You never know if CIC will approve your timeline. And this is what they asked for in the first place, don't need to prove them wrong (even if they are not exactly spot on), obviously your officer felt a need to ask for a certificate. So it's best to stay safe and do what they are asking you to do.

For right now, apply for the Police Certificate and within that application request for a letter that outlines the processing time from Netherlands side (99% of the time they send you that letter first before they send you the PC) or if it's outlined on their website (Netherlands police), simply print it off and then compose an explanation letter (this time to CIC), explaining your situation, from your address dates change, to the fact that Netherlands embassy is unable to meet CIC's deadline [given to you]. Include all of your supporting documents and ask for an extension. CIC will receive that letter + documents and will issue you an extension. Remember they are not mean robots, they are there to help you in, reasonably.

Rule of thumb: keep a copy of all of your documents and proofs including your uploaded time screenshots to tracking numbers etc.

For your last question, I don't want to burst any bubbles or go harsh on you, but they are simply doing a background check on you. Your eligibilty might have passed as of now, but medicals still standing and some other security factors. Stay patient and positive.

Best of luck mate,

Thanks man, awesome reply.

They didn't change my address yet is the thing, they haven't even told me which office my visa is being processed at, information I need to change my address online.

I've just applied for the police certificate, I guess it's better to have it like you've said, it's just annoying they said it was 6 months spent in one country, I actually moved home to avoid this extra cost/hassle.

Lastly my medicals passed but I guess anything could happen at this point! Thanks for your advice, you've calmed me down. I tend to go into a mad panic and get very manic and stressed when this kinda thing happens!

Anytime! Glad I could help. I completely understand your frustration, but what can you do right? You made the right decision asking for that certificate.
And yes they are not very transparent about the process, hence your visa office. I believe the processing office is Sydney Nova Scotia, but times have changed and I might be wrong.

All the best,

Do you think this will slow the process down much? Do I get pushed to the back of the queue now?

No you don't get pushed. They will assign a new deadline and once they receive the asked-for document they will get back on your application.
