CPC-M has accepted your application with the FBI certificate dated the time it was. That being the case, you might want to wait on your initial contact from Buffalo to advise you whether they require a new one.

Thanks for the advice. I can't worry about what I can't control, so whatever happens, I'll react to it accordingly. I'll follow up in this thread when the decision comes down and whether or not they request a new cert from me.

Good luck everyone!

Hi, does anybody have any idea what the case would be when I lived full time on a ship for several years that travelled through different countries, never in one country for more than a few weeks at a time. Could I be requested for police certificates for each country? CIC states they are required only if a person has resided in a country for six consecutive months. I've searched the forum but there doesn't seem to be many examples like this.

Doubtful you will need additional police clearances in this case. Send what you have for the countries you did live in for 6 months or more. If CIC wants more PCCs they will ask for them.

Thanks rjessome, I was a bit concerned because it was in essence, no fixed address for several years (even though it was over 15 years ago).

A couple of my colleagues were just discussing an issue like this yesterday. If you had immigration documents (work visas) for any countries where the ships were based (the country flag of the ship) in order to work on it, it's probably a good idea to get police clearances from those countries. However, if the ship is flagged from a country where you already lived and have a police clearance, then you are probably fine. Like I said before, if they want more, they will ask.

Hmmm...that's interesting, thanks for the heads up rjessome. That thought had crossed my mind too but I was dreading dealing with it because it was a Dutch ship and even though I never lived in Holland for 6 months it was registered there. This is a bit worrying now because I did look at the police certificate procedure for Holland and they talk about requiring a representative in Holland to obtain the certificate on my behalf. I wonder has anybody dealt with this while living outside of Holland and not knowing anybody in Holland to be the representative?

I think the key is if you had an immigration document to work in Holland. I can't say for sure and it may also depend on how long you worked on the ship. If I find out a set rule for those who've worked on cruise ships, I will post it here.

Thank you rjessome, I do appreciate your help. At the time I had an English passport and was able to work in some countries without a visa. I was on the ship from early 1988 to 1995.
