Hi all, please someone should kindly help me with this. My friend hasn't been to her birth country in 4 years and in December 2014 applied for a PCC for that country however on the PCC it states that it's valid for 3 months. My question now is as the new rule states that 'for countries in which the applicant no longer resides, the PC must be issued later than the departure date of the last time the client resided in that country for more than six months'. So as the PCC was issued after she left the country, is the PCC valid? I kindly await your response. Thanks.

The PCC is not valid as it was issued in December 2014 and it is only valid for 3 months. She will need to apply for a new PCC. Also to clarify on the statement it means you need to provide PCC for all countries where you reside for more than 6 months and the PCC should be issued after your departure from that country, so if you lived for example in xyz country for 6+months and left the country on for e.g. 1st jan 2014 then the pcc should be issued after the 1st jan 2014 date not before. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks for your response. Yes she left the country in 2010 and hasn't returned since and the PC was issued in December 2014. However since she hasn't returned and CIC doesn't mention anything about the validity of the PC itself except that it should be issued after the last time you left the country then surely the PC should still be valid?

According to CIC rules the PCC is perfectly valid. However, because it's explicitly mentioned on the PCC that its only valid for 3 months makes this case little tricky. Just to be on the safer side, if it is not a big hassle, I would recommend your friend to try and get a new one just in case.

Thanks for your response. Just one last thing though, CIC website also states that 'PCs are typically valid for one year from the date they are issued'. Does this mean that one year nullifies whatever valid date is written on the PC? This PC issue is the most confusing thing.

Not tricky at all. CIC makes the rules for CIC, not a foreign government. If it is valid for CIC, then it doesn't matter when it "expires" according to someone else.

Anya's friend's PCC is valid, based on the information provided.

I know the PCC website had the phrase "valid for one year from the date they are issued," which contradicted the new instructions. It was a remnant of the previous rules (incomplete editing of the website). Looking at the website now, that phrase appears to have (finally) been deleted (at least, I cannot find it at the moment), even though the site does not show a new "updated" date. SO there should be no more confusion...
