My wife, Canadian citizen, is sponsoring me and our daughter.

The Fingerprint Request Letter asks for the following:

"applicants for permanent residence and their family members (18 years and over) obtain original police certificates for all countries where they have lived for six months or longer in the past 10 years."

"original set of fingerprints is required for each certificate being requested"

Does "family members" refer to just my wife and child (who are applying) OR my sister, father, mother, who all live in the US and are not applying for anything?

Where can I get those fingerprints? Because right now we are in Toronto on a long-term visitor visa to Canada but we have a permanent address in the USA.

Some of this is explained the app - but not very clearly. I'm worried... Thanks.

The sponsor does not get a police certificate. The applicant needs to. So that means you need a police certificate, and your daughter if she is 18 or older. Other relatives do not get a police certificate.

In the CIC forms, 'family members' means your spouse or common-law partner, or conjugal partner, and any dependent children. It does not means grandparents, uncles, aunts, parents, cousins, etc. It also does not include the sponsor in most questions, because the sponsor is already a Canadian citizen or PR.

However, there are questions that ask about parents and children - answer them. In addition, the Additional Family Information form does ask about other relatives, so the applicant should list his spouse, children, parents, and all siblings.

Is your wife a Canadian citizen by descent or is there another reason you guys decided to sponsor your daughter instead of applying for a grant of citizenship?

By descent. And my wife cleared me up: my wife is applying directly for her citizenship, family-class pr.

And anyone know where exactly is the best place to get fingerprinted?

I assume you mean she is sponsoring your daughter and then applying for her citizenship right away after she becomes a PR.

I know others have had the Commissionaires do their fingerprints.
